Waggon Wheel Crochet Flower

Hi All! Ok so this is a flower that I came up with for one of my secret projects, and was first revealed here. I have called it a waggon wheel flower because the middle 'spokes' remind me of them. They are very easy to make and can be whipped up in less than 10 minutes!!
For this tutorial I have used an aluminium 4mm hook (for UK people) and a random selection of cotton based yarns.

To begin! Chain 5 and make a slip stitch into the first chain to form a magic circle.

Chain 2, then work 11 dc into the centre of the circle. Make a slip stitch into the top chain of the original two.

Chain 4, then work *1 tr into the next stitch, chain 1*. Repeat from * to * all the way around until you have 12 'spokes'. Make a slip stitch into the third chain from the original strand to finish the round.

Ok so now we are moving on to the petal structures and will be working out of the chain gaps created in the previous round, so make another slip stitch into the nearest chain gap to the left of your hook.

In the same gap work 1htr, 1tr. Moving to the next gap along work 1tr, 1htr, sl st. One petal is made. *In the next chain gap, sl st, 1htr, 1tr. Move to the next chain gap, 1 tr, 1htr, sl st.* Repeat from * to * all the way around. You should have six complete petals.

As you are ending the petal sequence on a slip stitch, you can fasten off and cut the thread there ready for stitching back in, but if you would like a bit of extra security, then I would recommend making another slip stitch into the bottom of the first petal created before tying off.

So there you have it!! Wasn't that easy? For my secret project, I have layered this flower up with another little flower from another of my tutorials which I think looks really lovely. The flowers were made separately and then hand stitched together.

Also, if you would like something a bit more extravagant, I have played around with this pattern and created a double waggon wheel flower, the pattern of which can be found here. Enjoy. =D
