Purvaai Textile Samples!!

Righty ho then. Here we go!! These are my samples from the Purvaai project. It is based, for those who don't know, on mushrooms!!

 Gold vinyl onto silk dupion.

More vinyl, this time on a grey linen and hand stitched to subtly emphasise some areas.

Teal flock, embroidered with beads in some places.

I'm beginning to 'grow mould' here with the introduction of machine needle embellishing and hand tufting with some beading as well.

These didn't go so well. The idea was to combine flock/vinyl with pleats and maybe add in some other embellishments.

Introduced some reverse applique and hand stitching into this one.

Having fun with rhinestones and hand cut vinyl. The pleating is too straight here though, doesn't have the right feeling.

The above one didn't work so well either. The grey is too cold and it needs something behind it really but I couldn't think what. The cutting technique is interesting though.

These samples are getting more textural, with pleats being the main thing. The above has some reverse applique too.

I was playing with pleats being different heights which created little hollows for my tufting and stitches.

So there we have my samples. What did you think? Hopefully they show my story of leaving some mushrooms on the side and watching them grow mouldy and disintegrate....

Edited to add: Goodness me! I forgot to put in about my final designs!! And they are naturally the best bits! So quickly before anyone notices my silliness...

So my gorgeous golden cushion!! Which I think I have shown you before. This is a better photo though.

My middling cushion with vinyl and texture.

And my overly textured cushion!
