Rainbow Case

I got a bit bored yesterday. I couldn't do any more on either of my blankets as I ran out of wool on both types (super annoying) and tried just watching Criminal Minds without doing anything for a while but I'm not very good at just sitting still so eventually got up and had a rummage through my wool basket.

I gathered together a bundle of happy colours and thought they made a beautiful rainbow spectrum. To begin with I wasn't really making anything specific other than a nice rainbow square, but eventually it became sort of pencil case-like and I rolled with that. It is a very tight stitch as I used a 3.0mm hook rather than my usual 3.5mm hook, so quite suitable for a case.

Once I made a long strip of rainbow loveliness, I folded it into three and crocheted a white border around the longer edges, catching two layers at the bottom to create the pocket.

I didn't fancy buttons for this case, and made a simplistic wrap around ribbon with chain stitches, catching it with some slip stitches at the back to hold it.

Such happy colours, a really useful item for travelling crochet time and a far less boring evening of television!! A very productive evening.

  1. Hello! This is so lovely :) I've been hunting for a rainbow pencil case for my daughter and saw a couple on Etsy but they were not big enough, and not nearly this beautiful. Would you consider selling it? I can pay by PayPal if you wish. Thank you!

    1. Hi Tartine, thank you for your lovely comment, I do love rainbows so this was a simple pleasure to make. If you would be interested in buying, it is £10 and I note you are in California so would have to charge £3.15 for postage. ($18.66 in total, and I can do PayPal) The case is 8 inches long by roughly 4.5 inches, and I reckon you could fit a fair few pens and pencils in it!! Let me know. xx

  2. Hi Dottie! I hit "reply" to the email notification (duh) and was wondering why I had not heard back. I am still interested and can send money today. To which email address should I send the PayPal payment? And I'll choose "friends and family" so you don't get hit with merchant fees. My thanks again; Mia is going to be thrilled!
