We went on a little family excursion to Sheffield Park last weekend. It was bitterly cold and was only sunny when we arrived. Half way through, as we were just sitting down for a picnic lunch, the heavens opened and we had to take shelter under a bush.
The park is beautiful in every season though and we come here a lot as it's one of our nearest National Trust properties. I was particularly taken by the beautiful Snowdrops, especially as we've just completed the Snowdrop Carpet theme for the Stitchscape swap, and there were huge areas fenced off to allow Daffodils to grow unharmed from the trampling muddy boots of little people so we will definitely have to go back in a few weeks time to see those!
Every time we go it seems as if Little F is more interested and interactive with what he sees. We pause often to show him the ducks or geese, or to pick up a leaf, or to touch the bark of trees. I really want him to grow up loving nature and being as fascinated by it as me. Whilst we were sheltering under our bush from the rain, a little robin joined us and very politely sang a song in return for one of Fin's crispy things. It turned out that he couldn't break it up though so I squashed one and held it out in my hand and he flew and ate the crumbs right off my palm! That was a very special experience.
These arctic inspired sculptures were really cool - all seemingly made out of milk bottles! They had also converted a little covered seating space by The Shant kiosk into an ice cave, complete with the sound of cracking ice and lapping water, with flashing lights and dangling things. It was a very sensory experience!
